Paul Rees
Position: Owner / General Manager
Having spent 21 years in the Royal Marine Commandos I now own and am the managing director of Centurion RAS Ltd. My company specialises in training personnel for hostile environments including war zones. The company is manned by ex Marines who travel worldwide, training and looking after personnel including media organisations such as Sky News, Reuters, Associated Press, ITN, NGO's Aid Agencies and Business Corporations.
I stepped in to be the General Race Manager at the end of the '05 season, and after talking to Gary Stubbington (Race Manager), we both agreed that we had to make some serious and drastic changes in order to commit and perform in one of the most demanding and spectacular race events worldwide.
Centurion Racing as a team, are all aware of our riders potential on the track, and all aware of the commitment people have already shown that has pushed the riders this far.
Centurion Racing took part in their first season in the British Supersport (Cup) in 2006 and in order to make the team stand out, make a name for itself and obtain the results the team deserved, Gary and I reconstructed the whole team, from the top to the bottom. This proved to be the right move and the professional way forward.
This was a major decision that we had to make and take, as this could have affected the teams overall performance. It was a well calculated 'gamble' and it paid off. We changed literally everything from the bikes, set up, teams attire, vehicles, race material including awnings, banners and printing material.
The changes to the team obviously worked with winning 12 races out of 12 in the 2006 British Supersport Cup. We made world history as no other motorbike race team had ever won 12 races consecutively in one season. This is definitely something the team can be proud of.
Again in 2007, we dominated the British Supersport Cup by winning it for the second season with James 'Westy' Westmoreland. No other team has ever achieved these results.
With the 'new' team members joining us for the 08 season, Dennis Hobbs, John Cooper, Gemma Baird, Jonny Clayton, Clive Jones as well as 6 new Honda 600's, we are proud of who we are and totally focussed on where we want to be, up there with the best of them.
With Dennis Hobbs joining Westy and Dan as the third rider, this will benefit Centurion Racing in the long term as we will be taking all three riders to the World Supersport in 2009
Obviously and needless to say, I personally believe Centurion Racing is, and will be a strong contender for the British Supersport Championship in 08 especially with the commitment, professionalism, devotion and humour each member brings to the team.
To all sponsors, fans, friends etc, we really appreciate your support in Centurion Racing and here's wishing Westy, Dan, Dennis and the team a successful '08 season.
