Position: General Assistant
My earliest memory of racing is from when my dad took me to my local circuit, Cadwell Park to watch the likes of Sheene, Grant and Rocket Ron Haslam. The noise and the smell of motorbike racing are something that stay with you forever, but it was much later in life that my enthusiasm for the sport returned. Again the venue was always Cadwell but this time I was watching for a young (ish) local rider called Rob Mac in competition with the future British Champion, John Reynolds. In 2004 I had a call from a friend asking if I would be interested in helping (financially) a local rookie to race as a wildcard in the Cadwell round of the Supersport Championship, and again my enthusiasm for the sport was re-ignited. I continued my support in 2005 with the same rider competing in the Supersport Cup, which he duly won. This is when I met Sim (Simon Cross) and a chap called Dennis Hobbs!
In 06 the team progressed and I was offered the opportunity to work as a tyre tech and timekeeper but unfortunately a pre-season crash put our rider out for basically the rest of the season, which left Sim and I rather redundant. However, the team was a 2 rider outfit and it gave me the opportunity to do a bit of time keeping for a young 'Westy' Westmoreland.
Sadly the team folded and for the 07 season I became a personal sponsor to Westy and this is where I met Paul, Gary, Gaz and the team pre-season in Spain. I was immediately impressed by the professional manner in which the team was run, but also by the fact that all seemed so relaxed. A fantastic seasons racing followed with Westy retaining the Cup.
I cant wait to get next season under way, with the 3 top notch riders we have, and I thank Paul and Gary for giving me the opportunity to work for Centurion Racing.
