Situated in Leicestershire, the circuit only boasts five corners (includes the ‘Bus Stop’ chicane). The addition of Edwina’s has changed the nature of the circuit and made it more challenging. The track has also been changed between Shaws and Devils Elbow reducing the overall riders speed. Spectators have a great view all round the circuit with most of the circuit witnessed from the bank opposite the pits.

Start / Finish

• The start / finish straight

Gerards

• From the start / finish straight (Kirkby Straight) heading towards Gerards is fast and level with riders braking hard around the 100m marker / pit exit
The surface has a change just at the turn in point and there is also a bump so the rider needs to ensure the bike is steady
Entry speed into Apex 1 is extremely high but riders must ensure they can track the inside of the corner and hold a tight line for the first third of the corner
Gerards turns a little tighter a third of the way around which will naturally throw the rider two or three metres from the kerb
Just before Apex 2 there are bad bumps to negotiate
After the surface change on exiting Apex 2 riders will drift out to the left accelerating hard as they do so
With the imminent approach to Edwinas riders will need to get across to the right of the track and back upright before they need to brake
Tyre choice is critical for high corner speed through Gerards as well as the riders ‘bottle’ and utter commitment!

Edwina's

• This is a new edition to Mallory designed to add more interest and to make the run up to the hairpin more challenging
Riders will be braking hard and late on entering Edwina’s
Option is to keep wide if no other riders are challenging you so you can carry the best possible speed into the first part of the chicane
Once the rider reaches the exit service road on the right they must turn in as mistakes here are not kind to the rider as if they overshoot onto the old part of the track
The turn point into apex 1 is quite late and riders need to get to the inside kerb as soon as possible as this will help for the flick right on the second part of Edwina’s
There is not much room here for any overtaking
The turn into Apex 2 is late and hard – even though fairly straightforward exiting from this second apex requires care as riders will be in low gear
Riders will try to get their bike as upright as possible and as soon as possible
Drive is good from the exit all the way to and through the remaining part of the Lake Esses if the rider times their pick up on the throttle just right

Lake Esses

• Riders will exit Edwina’s on the left with the power on driving hard near to the kerb at the apex
There is a surface change at the apex with a slight camber change, but in the wet riders need to be aware and stay further right as water collects here which can cause all sorts of problems
If riders are using enough power and have a good speed the bike will be thrown to the right hand side of the track just past the apex
The exit and run up to the hairpin will find the rider on full speed but the camber changes further up the hill

Shaws Corners (‘The Hairpin’)

• Advancing uphill riders will go over the brow where abrupt braking will cause problems
The obvious braking marker on the right is the tree
This hairpin is slow so riders will save more time than they lose by positioning their bike carefully
There is two lines going into this bend – the first option is faster for a rider on his own with no fear of being overtaken as they allow their bike to drift slightly to he left on brakes
If crowded, the second option is essential as riders need to straight line into the bend to deny other riders room to pass on the inside
The apex is mid-corner but the kerb is quite tall compared to the others, as in the past riders have scraped the brake lever!
A tight line is essential passing the apex and coming out to mid track past Cowpat Kerb into Bus Stop Chicane

Bus Stop Chicane

• This chicane was added in for motorbike racing in order to reduce accidents further along the track at the Devil’s Elbow
For any rider to try to pass between the Hairpin and the Bus Stop is risky
Riders will use no more than two thirds of the track coming from Shaws in order to gain room into the chicane
Hardly any braking is required but timing is essential
The trick is to swing the bike through the whole section, concentrating on having the bike turned as much as possible for the crucial stage at Devil’s Elbow
Riders will aim for the crown of the first kerb on the left hand side and time will be saved by hanging off right for the right hander even before the left is negotiated
Riders will usually have slight throttle before the tyre barrier and the bike will need to be tipped over hard, but briefly to make the turn
They will accelerate hard after the barrier going over a slight bump
The final left hand kerb can almost be taken in a straight line
Riders will continue to short shift setting the machine up for Devil’s Elbow by turning hard whilst opening the throttle
Riders seldom try to overtake exiting the chicane

Devil’s Elbow

• The Devil’s Elbow is marked by a non-existent run off and an exit line which takes the rider within inches of the armco barrier
After the rider made the exaggerated turn leaving the Bus Stop their line should be comparatively straight as they crest the brow mid track level with the start of the inside kerb
They will be driving hard as they can and will possibly be on the edge of the tyre grip from this point all the way through the corner
The Apex is actually late between the green tannoy and the far end of the inside kerb
It is more important for riders to concentrate on the drive from here and not necessarily trying to clip the inside kerb
Track falls steeply on entering the start / finish straight and riders will use the grid markers as reference points
